Perfect for pollinators

Yellow Horned Poppy -glaucium flavum – is an attractive coastal plant usually associated with shingle beaches and tolerates harsh dry conditions very well. It is best grown in a sunny spot, and in gardens, is ideal for areas of gravel, where plants will attract bees. Yellow Horned Poppy will often grow in small clumps taking on a bushy appearance, and produces a mass of bright yellow flowers from June to September. The flowers are followed by very unusual curled seed pods that can grow up to 30 cms long. In gardens, Yellow Horned Poppy looks best alongside other poppy species such as Welsh Poppy, Corn Poppy, Long headed and Prickly Poppies.

How to grow Yellow Horned Poppy Seeds
Yellow Horned Poppy seeds should be sown in autumn, outside, where they are to flower or in seed trays and covered lightly with compost. Seed trays should be left outside over winter in a cold frame or covered with a sheet of glass. Germination of Yellow Horned Poppy seeds will normally take place the following spring. The seedlings can then be pricked out and grown on, for planting out later in the year

RHS Perfect for Pollinators.
The RHS Perfect for Pollinators mark is only given to plants that support pollinating insects in gardens. Bees, butterflies, moths, hoverflies and many others visit flowers to feed on nectar and pollen; while doing so they transfer pollen and increase seed set and fruit development.
